Judge Tosses MUD’s Lawsuit Against Residents – But Wait, There’s More!

The Williamson - Travis Counties MUD #1 just took a spectacular courtroom tumble. A Williamson County judge dismissed the board’s lawsuit against three residents and 1 former resident who dared to question their authority — citizens who, scandalously, thought free speech still applied in Texas and more specifically, inside of their local government.

As reported by Texas Scorecard (read it here) the MUD’s legal kitchen sink included claims of contract interference, defamation, assault, false imprisonment, and possibly jaywalking if they could have squeezed it in. The board even tried to ban the defendants from attending meetings or posting online. Nothing says “transparent government” like gag orders and thought police.

The judge, unimpressed, tossed the case and ordered the MUD to pay the defendants’ attorney fees. Yes, you read that right — not only did the board lose, they also stuck taxpayers with the bill for the residents’ lawyers. Bravo, fiscal responsibility!

But don’t cue the credits just yet. This board doesn’t give up that easily. Like a bad sequel nobody asked for, the MUD has filed a Third Amended Petition, doubling down on — wait for it — assault and false imprisonment. Apparently, showing up to a public meeting and asking questions now counts as a crime in the world according to WTCMUD1.

Stay tuned. Because if there’s one thing this board is determined to prove, it’s that government overreach knows no bounds.
